Image: 1504 - Long standing client brings two stunning pieces of 1950s furniture
We have renovated and re-upholstered many beautiful pieces of furniture for this client for over the past twenty years. On this occasion, the task was a great pleasure as it involved two beautiful pieces of 1950s furniture and trips to the client's new home in the lovely city of Bath to collect and deliver them. The first item was a four seater sofa with exposed wooden frame and a classic 1950s modernist line. Its button back enhances the minimalist design, which looks functional yet comfortable. It is always a pleasure to work on pieces like this. The other item was a charming tub chair, also in the modernist 1950s style. With simple, clean lines its curvaceous shape meant that the upholstery had to be spot on as any misalignment would stick out like a sore thumb. The client chose a best quality "Romo" flame retardant fabric to complement the clean, uncluttered lines of both pieces. Before re-upholstery, we replaced existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten-year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. All other interiors were either completely re-worked or replaced using best quality flame retardant interiors to ensure the sofa was restored to "as new". Our client was totally wowed by his renovated furniture and appreciated the quality of craftsmanship required to ensure a perfect finish and asked us to take two further pieces back with us for re-upholstery. We will feature them on the blog in due course.
