Some ten years ago, we re-upholstered this "Ercol" four piece suite comprising a three-seater sofa, two armchairs and a footstool. The clients had no hesitation in returning to us now that it was due for refreshing again.
One of the characteristics of "Ercol" furniture is their use of exposed frames, showing the beauty of the wood from which they are made. This makes the choice of fabrics for the upholstery most important as each element has to complement the other. On this occasion, our clients chose a beautiful self-patterned flatweave fabric with a boldly sized, yet subtly coloured floral pattern.
This choice looks lovely alongside the wooden frame and cappings of the suite, giving an overall natural, harmonious colour scheme. As a bonus, the fabric will keep those good looks for years to come as it is extremely hard wearing and easy to keep clean.
Before upholstery, all four pieces were stripped down to the bare frame, which was checked thoroughly before replacing all existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten-year guarantee. They were wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Also, to renovate existing back cushion and arm interiors, as and where necessary, to ensure they are completely restored to "as new".
As a finishing touch, new scatter cushions, covered in a complementary plain fabric were made.
Our clients said we had done a lovely job and were kind enough to send us an e-mail later that day and said "Thank you for reupholstering our furniture. It looks great".
