06/01/2017: Fifty year old corner piece Ercol day bed with chairs

This week the workshop has accommodated a corner unit and an "Ercol" day bed and four chairs. It is always a priority to make sure the furniture we re-upholster is restored to its original condition. This classic, quality furniture has now been fully restored and brought up to date.

The corner unit was first on the bench, it was first stripped back to the frame and all of it's interiors have been replaced with the best quality flame retardant interiors available. This is to ensure it is restored to the condition it was back in 1968 when it was bought by the customers, nearly 50 years ago. The seat cushion interiors have now been replaced with new best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. The existing back cushion interiors were also replaced. They are now made out of flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. This creates a perfect combination of quality, comfort and durability.

It has been re-upholstered in a best quality flame retardant crushed fabric. Lastly, a set of new legs were made and then French polished before being attached to the frame, which was then finished with a hand-stitched flat skirt. Not only does this fabric look fantastic, it will retain it's good looks for many years as it is incredibly hard-wearing and "Teflon" coated so will repel stains and marks as well as lasting for as long a fabric can possibly last.

This corner unit is obviously incredibly good quality and although it has had a hard life and been re-upholstered a number of times in the past it has been treasured by the owners and has now been restored to its former glory. Our clients were thrilled and were kind enough to say it looked the best they had seen it!

Next on the bench was a "Ercol" day bed and four chairs, the usual procedure took place to replace all materials with flame retardant interiors. It was then re-upholstered in the highest quality "Romo" linen which was of course also flame retardant. Our clients were thrilled to say the least and said it was wonderful, lovely and beautiful and have already asked us to undertake further upholstery work for them. We look forward to featuring these on the blog in due course.
