07/07/2017: Treasured curved “Bridgecraft” three piece suite brought up to date

Having owned and treasured this distinctive "Bridgecraft" suite for over thirty five years, this client was not prepared to entrust its re-upholstery to just anyone, wanting the job done by an expert. Despite the distance involved from their home in Oxfordshire, the client was happy for us to collect and deliver the suite as they couldn't find anyone that they trusted closer to home.

Originally, the suite had a deep-buttoned back, buttoned front skirt and was finished with a fringe. However, they wanted a more contemporary look. Choosing two complimentary fabrics from the "Linwood" range, a plain fabric for the body of the suite and a subtly patterned one from the same range for the cushions. After discussion, the buttoned back was replaced with plain cushion faces and the fringe gave way to a more contemporary rolled edge.

Our clients absolutely loved the end result and were thrilled to bits! They were impressed with both the appearance and the comfort, both saying that their suite was even more comfortable than it had ever been. They loved the more modern look and were impressed with the pattern matching, which is always critical when curved surfaces are present.

To get an "as new" finish, it is always necessary to start with the foundation, stripping all pieces back to the frame to make sure it is solid, then replacing all interiors with modern, flame retardant materials before finishing the upholstery.

Next to ensure the greatest quality, comfort and durability, all existing seat cushions were replaced with best quality flame retardant “Reflex” interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Back cushion interiors were remodelled to remove the buttoning, replacing existing interiors with best quality flame retardant “Fibre-fill” interiors. The combination of “Reflex” and “Fibre-fill” ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

Distance really is no object when you want the best possible result for your treasured furniture. You can send us photographs to get a quote, with your furniture being collected and delivered at times convenient to you. 30/06/2017: Combining and contrasting fabrics to great effect

For their "Duresta" Knowle armed three seater sofa and armchair, this client chose a combination of fabrics that are quite breathtaking when used together. For the sofa, a very subtle self patterned grey "Romo" fabric contrasts with a very modern geometric patterned fabric from the same range, applied to the armchair. To bring the contrasting fabrics together, scatter cushions were made from both.

The end result has to be seen to be fully appreciated, with the stunning simplicity of the grey highlighted and enhanced by the boldness of the pattern. As always with the more subtle fabrics, pattern matching is of paramount importance, as even the tiniest misalignment will stand out. Meticulous attention to detail was necessary to ensure the perfect result.

To ensure a finished result that was "as new" and true to the highest "Duresta" quality, both pieces were stripped back to the bare frame first, to make sure it was in perfect condition to provide the best possible foundation. Once we were satisfied that all was well with the framework, all interiors were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials

For the best possible quality, comfort and durability, all existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. These were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to further prolong cushion life.

As a finishing touch, a set of removable caps were made to protect the arms of the furniture.

Our clients were thrilled with the fabric and finish of the furniture and said it was more comfortable than before! They were delighted to have been recommended to us and said they too will recommend us.

16/06/2017: Like brand new, only more comfortable

That was the comment from this delighted client on the return of their "Duresta" three seater sofa, which we had re-upholstered in a best quality flame retardant "Romo" striped chenille fabric.

The sofa looked as good as new too, thanks to the great care that was taken in pattern matching the chosen fabric. Stripes are particularly unforgiving when it comes to showing up even the tiniest misalignment, so it is vital to get this right. Our client':s verdict was "superb"!

The first stage in making sure that the end result is "as new", is to strip the furniture back to its bare frame and check that it is going to provide a perfect foundation. Once the frame had been inspected and found to be good, then all the interiors were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials before starting on the upholstery.

To ensure the greatest comfort and durability, existing seat cushion interiors were all replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, carrying a ten year guarantee. The cushions interiors were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing back cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors.

We look forward to reading our clients' comments on our Which? Trusted Traders page in due course and we are delighted that they are happy to recommend us!

02/06/2017: "Bridgecraft" five-piece suite "Looks brand new"

That was the reaction of our client on delivery of their re-upholstered "Bridgecraft" five piece suite, comprising three and four seater sofas, wing chair, footstool and an upholstered corner table.

With a suite that will accommodate quite a few people, there is likely to be a big family, or large number of visitors, or even both involved. The choice of fabric is ideal for this as the crushed velvet selected is "Teflon" coated. This will retain its luxurious look and feel for many years, being machine washable and remarkably resistant to marks and stains.

Working with "Bridgecraft" furniture is always a pleasure. As expected, when these pieces were stripped back to their bare frames, they were found to be in great condition, giving us the ideal foundation for a finish that was "as new".

Existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing back cushion interiors were also replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" interiors ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

As a finishing touch, all pieces, except the upholstered corner table, were finished with a rolled edge.

Our client said it was lovely and looked brand new!

02/06/2017: Cushions have a hard life. Refill to bring the bounce back!

All things considered, cushions have a pretty hard time. Just when they are breathing a sigh of relief, the get sat on, shuffled on, even jumped on, day in, day out. It's a small wonder that they last as long as they do before exacting their revenge on the posteriors they meet. The discomfort of collapsed cushions is insidious, it creeps up on everyday sitters, but when a visitor arrives, particularly one who hasn't sat on that piece of furniture for some time, the lack of spring and bounce becomes immediately noticeable.

Re-filling cushions is one of the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective ways of bringing back the life to your furniture, so it is once again comfortable for all and you can invite visitors, safe in the knowledge that they will be comfortable.

Call us now, or click in the header of any page to send us an email and to start the ball rolling towards putting the life and bounce back into your furniture.

26/05/2017: "Multi-York" Two Seater Sofa in Sumptuous Chenille

If your taste in furniture is for comfort and warmth, you would love this "Multi-York" sofa, which simply invites you to curl up on it with a good book and stay there. The client chose a sumptuous "Linwood" chenille in a rich, deep red that looks and feels absolutely luxurious. The colour was also chosen to complement the client's existing decor, which it does perfectly.

When aiming for the perfect "as new" finish, it is always necessary to start with the foundation by stripping back the furniture to its bare frame and checking for any flaws before proceeding with the upholstery. Rebuilding then starts with replacing all interiors with the latest, best quality, flame retardant materials to restore the item to its original highest specification condition.

Existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors, which were wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong life. "Reflex" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability. Existing feather back cushions were re-worked and restored to "as new".

Our clients were chuffed to bits with their "new" sofa!

19/05/2017: Two large three seater sofas in luxurious mink coloured slubbed velvet

For their two large sofas, our client chose the luxurious look and feel of a best quality, flame retardant, mink coloured slub velvet. They now exude comfort and look every bit as inviting as they feel.

In order to achieve this "as new" condition, both sofas were first stripped back to their frames, then after a thorough check of the woodwork, all interiors were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials, restoring them to their original highest specification.

We also replaced existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee.  They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life.  Existing back cushion interiors were also replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors.  The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

12/05/2017: Four piece suite looks stunning in large check Warwick fabric

Our client chose a best quality flame retardant "Warwick" fabric for this four piece suite, comprising a two seater sofa, two armchairs and a padded footstool. The subtle mid grey with an understated blue and white check looks fabulous, but required great attention to detail in order to ensure perfect pattern matching.

To ensure an "as new" finish, we started by stripping all the pieces back to their bare frames and carefully checking they were in perfect condition before replacing all the interiors with best quality flame retardant materials so that the upholstery will rest on the best possible foundation.

For comfort and long life, the existing seat cushion interiors were all replaced with best quality, flame retardant "Reflex", which was wrapped in a secondary casing of Dacron and stockinette. The back cushion interiors were replaced with "Fibre-fill" materials. This combination gives the best possible balance of comfort, quality and durability.

Lastly, all three pieces were finished with a rolled edge and scatter cushions were made to complement the suite.

28/04/2017: A great challenge from some fine vintage furniture

It is great to build up the sort of relationship with a client where they entrust truly prized possessions to you for restoration. So it is with this client, for whom we have re-upholstered many pieces of furniture from his homes in London, Bath and Spain in some thirty years.

Of all the pieces we have worked on in that time, these presented the greatest challenge. On the surface, they look like two relatively simple, steel framed chairs with button upholstered base and back, and one simply styled chair with wooden frame and arms. In reality, we had to take a step back from the job every now and again, in order to make sure that the "Romo" Calida Jute Peretti fabric was applied to a perfectly restored base to give an "as new" finish.

Work like this just cannot be rushed and our client was happy to wait for two weeks to get the perfect result. In the end, the clean lines of these 1950s designer chairs are accentuated by the client's choice of fabric to give a very striking appearance.

14/04/2017: Beautiful and Comfortable, plus Great Timekeeping "As Promised"

There's more to being in business than doing a great job. Understanding the value of clients' time is the key to delivering great customer service too. In this case, our client was delighted to remark that we had kept all our promises, collecting and delivering on time and keeping to appointments. We see this as being every bit as important as delivering first class upholstery work. It is really gratifying to hear that it is appreciated.

The furniture concerned was a "Cooper's" three piece suite, comprising one winged three seater sofa and two winged armchairs. The fabric chosen is a luxuriouslooking and feeling "Kirkby House" crushed fabric. Not only does this make the furniture incredibly inviting and comfortable, but it will also keep its good looks for many years, thanks to its protective Teflon coating.

To ensure a perfect "as new" finish, all three pieces were stripped back to the frame and renovated from the ground up, restoring the suite to its original "Cooper's" specification, replacing all interiors with best quality, flame retardant materials.

Lastly, all three pieces were finished with a rolled edge and four scatter cushions made to complement the suite. Our clients said it looked beautiful and was superbly comfortable.

07/04/2017: "I can see you love your job, it's a complete work of art"

That was the lovely comment made by our client when we delivered this sofa on Friday. What a wonderful start to the weekend!

The sofa in question was a three seater, which we had just re-upholstered in a best quality flame retardant "Villa Nova" linen from their latest "Vintage" range.

The subtle pattern in this fabric looks wonderful close up, thanks to meticulous care taken in pattern matching. It is one of those strange paradoxes that the more understated the pattern, the more it will glaringly show even the tiniest error in alignment.

To make sure that the end result was perfect and "as new", the job has to start with the best possible foundation, so the sofa was stripped back to its bare frame, which was carefully examined before replacing all the interiors with best quality, flame-retardant materials.

Existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. These were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. "Reflex" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability. The existing feather back cushion interiors were in good condition so could be re-used.

Finally, the sofa was finished with a rolled edge, to add the finishing touch.

31/03/2017: Second time around the corner unit!

For the second time, this client came to us for re-upholstery of their corner unit. On this occasion, the fabric they chose is a best quality, flame-retardant "Warwick" flatweave. This choice really complements the clean lines and subtle curves of the corner unit.

To achieve a perfect &Quot;as new&Quot; finish, first of all the foundation must be sound so the pieces were stripped back to their frames and renovated from the ground up using best quality, flame-retardant interiors.

We also replaced existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing back cushion interiors were still in good condition and did not need to be replaced. They were, however, re-worked, using additional "Fibre-fill" to ensure they were restored to "as new". The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability.

Our clients, once again, were delighted and will be bringing in some more upholstery work for us shortly.

24/03/2017: Subtle fabrics accentuate the elegant lines of this Knowle drop-arm sofa

This sumptuous "Knowle" sofa looks just stunning in a subtle almond flatweave fabric from "Linwood" which accentuates its stylish lines. The elegantly curved back and the shape of the drop-arms necessitate great attention to detail and care to ensure that the grain and pattern of the fabric align perfectly.

Our clients were delighted, saying that their sofa looked "brand new and lovely".

In order to achieve results like this and to ensure a finish that is absolutely "as new" finish, the best start is to strip the furniture back to its bare frame, especially when there are moving parts involved, such as the arm hinges. Once we are sure that the frame is in perfect condition, then we can proceed, replacing all webbing and interiors with modern, best quality, flame retardant materials.

The seat cushion interiors are then replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" and "Reflex" interiors, wrapped in a mix of stockinette and Dacron to ensure the greatest possible comfort and longest life. The interiors used also carry a ten year makers guarantee.

We were delighted with the kind comments made by our client and look forward to reading their feedback on our "Which?" Trusted Traders page.

17/03/2017: "Multi-York" Three-Piece Suite, "Back to Brand New"

This client chose a subtly flecked grey chenille from Ross Fabrics for their classic Multi-York three piece suite, comprising a two seater sofa, a three seater sofa and a footstool. The sculpted shape of the back cushions and the curvature of the arms meant that great attention to detail was required to ensure perfect pattern matching. The end result is an understated appearance that just oozes comfort. Our client was delighted and said that their suite had been brought back to brand new.

To begin with, all three pieces were stripped back to their bare frames, which is the essential first step in ensuring that the finished work is "as new". Once the frames have been thoroughly checked, all the fixed interiors were replaced with the most up to date, flame-retardant materials.

Next, all the seat cushion interiors were treated to best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. These were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing back cushion interiors were also replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability.

As a finishing touch, all three pieces were finished with a rolled edge, and arm caps were made at the request of our client to protect the fabric on the arms.

We are looking forward to seeing the comments of this client on our Which? Trusted Trader page.

10/03/2017: "Parker Knoll" Armchairs with Matching "Ercol" Dining Chairs

Our client this week chose a really inviting and comfortable looking deep red fabric from "Ross" for two "Parker Knoll" armchairs. This best quality, flame-retardant fabric is also highly durable and will give many years of service while retaining its shape and good looks.

For consistency, the client also requested four seat pads for their beautiful "Ercol" dining chairs. The colour complements the wood frames of the chairs really well, sharing and extending the rich, warm tones, looking every bit as comfortable as they feel. The seat pads were made to the highest original "Ercol" specification, so will give years of comfort and service.

To ensure an "as new" finish, the armchairs were first of all stripped back to their frames so that they could be checked thoroughly before replacing the interiors with up to the minute, best quality flame retardant materials.

Also, existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. "Reflex" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability. This ensures that they are completely restored to their original highest "Parker Knoll" specification.

Our client said she was really pleased she'd had the work done and the armchairs were really comfortable. She also commented that the dining chair pads were fitted and fixed beautifully. Here is the review that Mrs R sent to "Which? Trusted Traders":

03/03/2017: "Multi-York" Suite in Subtle "Linwood" Fabric

It was particularly pleasing to work with the subtle, diamond pattern "Linwood" fabric chosen by this client, as it requires great attention to detail in order to get the pattern matching perfect. Very often, the simpler the pattern, the more glaring any tiny errors become. It is also nice to be able to work for customers who take a real interest in the job. In this case, the client thought long and hard before opting for re-upholstery instead of replacement, as they wanted the job to be absolutely perfect.

It was very satisfying to show them over the work in our workshop before re-delivery and have them tell us that, on inspection, their "new" suite delighted them, as did the fact that we kept our promise to deliver "as new" condition. They were also kind enough to say that it was a pleasure to do business with us.

A good deal of the satisfaction in such a finished result starts with the foundations of the work, so as a matter of course, each piece is stripped back to the frame, so that can be inspected, putting right any flaws that may be found. This builds a strong foundation that will support the upholstery just like when the suite was new. All interior materials are then replaced with top quality, flameproof products.

Finally, before applying the upholstery, we also replaced existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing back cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill". The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

We always encourage clients to visit the workshop to view the quality of our craftsmanship at any stage in the process. So that you can be proud of your furniture, we are proud of the way that it is treated while in our care.

24/02/2017: "The best our suite has ever looked!"

When this week's suite was delivered, our client was delighted and was kind enough to say it was "the best it had ever looked" Praise indeed.

The furniture in question was a four piece suite, comprising one three seater sofa, one two seater sofa, one armchair and one footstool. The client chose two very different best quality flame retardant "Christina Marrone" fabrics, which complemented not only each other but the decor of the room.

The three seater sofa and footstool were upholstered in a fine diamond check, which required meticulous attention to ensure perfect pattern matching, while the two seater sofa and armchair received a sumptuous sand coloured velour.

To ensure an "as new" finish, all four pieces were stripped back to the frames, which were thoroughly inspected, then treated to new interiors using best quality flame retardant materials. This gives the ideal foundation for the cushions and upholstery, so that the finish will not only be perfect, but will also be durable.

The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" interiors ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability.

All four pieces were finished with a rolled edge, then to add the finishing touch, protective arm caps and back protectors were made to protect the suite.

17/02/2017: Third time of re-upholstery for this classic suite

It is always gratifying to see clients return for upholstery on familiar pieces of furniture. This is the third time we have re-upholstered this four piece suite for this particular long-standing client, for whom we have re-upholstered numerous pieces of furniture over many years.

This classic four piece suite, comprising one three seater sofa, one two seater sofa, one armchair and one footstool, has a beautiful shape with flowing lines and rolled arms. To accentuate the form and complement their décor, our client chose a best quality flame retardant "Linwood" fabric in a comfortable and inviting shade of deep red

As always, all four pieces were stripped back to the frame to make sure that the end result would be "as new". Foundation restoration consisted of replacing all interiors with modern best quality, flame retardant materials to give the upholstery the best possible support.

The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

Once again, our clients were delighted and we look forward to seeing them again when they next change their décor and require upholstery to complete the look.

10/02/2017: Contrasting Fabrics for Stunning Looks

Our client brought us their two sofas, one two seater and one three seater for re-upholstery. Their choice of fabrics from two different ranges coordinate beautifully and show that you don't always have to stick to just one manufacturer or range when combining fabrics.

For the main bodies of the sofas, our client chose a very practical and hard wearing plain chenille from the "J Brown" range to be complemented by and contrasted with two striking, patterned "Romo" fabrics for the scatter back cushions. The end result is simply stunning.

As always, when a first class, "as new" finish is required, we started with the foundations of the furniture, stripping both sofas back to the bare frame to ensure that they were in perfect condition.

Then, all existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten-year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. Existing scatter back cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability.

Finally, applying the fabrics required meticulous attention to detail to ensure perfect pattern matching. Even with plain looking fabrics, this is important as even a slight misalignment will show up glaringly due to the direction of the weave.

Our client was delighted was kind enough to say she and would gladly recommend us! We look forward to reading her independent feedback sent directly to Which? Trusted Traders on their website in due course.

03/02/2017: Classic 1960s "Minty" Furniture - a Joy to Work With

This week we completely re-upholstered one classic "Minty" three piece suite, comprising a three seater sofa and two armchairs, in a best quality flame retardant "Warwick" chenille fabric.

"Minty" furniture is a pleasure to work with as although this suite is some fifty years old, it is classic, very on-trend and superbly made.

Although this client lives in Tunbridge Wells, a little out of our usual area, they were keen to find the best upholstery company to renovate and re-upholster their classic and much loved furniture. The feedback that they found on our own website and through the Which? Trusted Trader comments reassured them that they would receive a first class result. After viewing examples of our work in our weekly blog and photo gallery, they commissioned us to carry out the work, valuing the end result more than the distance involved.

Even though "Minty" furniture is superbly made and you can rely on its longevity, just to satisfy ourselves that the finished work would be "as new", all three pieces were stripped back to the frame and all interiors replaced with best quality flame retardant interiors, preserving its highest original "Minty" specification.

We replaced existing seat cushion interiors with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee.

Our clients were very, very pleased with their "new" suite, said it was very comfortable and were thrilled with the end result. They were kind enough to say they would happily recommend us and we look forward to reading their feedback on our Which? Trusted Traders page in due course!

In their own words: "Dear Richard

Many thanks for re-upholstering our Minty Suite. We are delighted with it.

We will send the Which? trusted traders feedback shortly.

Thanks again"

31/01/2017: Thank you for 92 out of 92 positive reviews!

Thank you to all our clients that leave feedback for us on our Which? Trusted Traders page, we always enjoy reading it and we are now up to our 92nd positive review out of 92 overall reviews!

Here is our latest review:

Returned as good as new!

Richard is a fantastic upholsterer. He is very professional and efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. He came to view our tired but good quality 4 piece suite and after listening to our requirements gave us good advice and recommendations on fabrics and fillings and promised to return it as good as new. He was true to his word!! We chose a fabric from his extensive range and he provided a competitive quote the next day which we accepted and agreed timing. He collected the suite on time and returned it to us the next week as agreed. We really cannot fault the craftsmanship and finish with perfect pattern matching. It has a wow factor and it certainly looks as good as new. We are extremely pleased with the result and would highly recommend Richard to anyone.

We look forward to reaching 100 reviews on Which? and to continue the strong trend of positive reviews.

27/01/2017: Two sofas and footstool made by us restored to their original condition

This week two beautiful edone sofas and a lift-top footstool have been restored to their original condition. The suite was made by us, bespoke for the client approximately eight years ago. It was made with a Beechwood frame of the highest quality and to our client’s exacting specifications. As the client liked the re-upholstery we did for them on their "Coopers" suite so much, they gave us another call to restore this set as well.

All three pieces have been re-upholstered in a best quality flame retardant checked fabric. As always, Richard's expert pattern matching skills were required to ensure a first class result.

Both the two-seater and the three-seater sofas along with the footstool were first stripped back to the frames, and all their interiors were replaced with the highest quality flame retardent materials where necessary.

To ensure the suite was restored to "as new" condition, the seat cushion interiors have been replaced with "Reflex" interiors, along with a secondary casing made of Dacron and stockinette. The existing back cushion interiors did not require replacement, but they were still re-worked and where necessary, replaced with "Fibre-fill" interiors. All materials used in this process are flame retardant, along with the "Reflex" interiors carrying a ten year guarantee. This ensures that the combination of maximum comfort, quality and durability was achieved.

Lastly, all three pieces were finished with a rolled edge and we made six scatter cushions to finish the look!

Our client was absolutely thrilled and we look forward to seeing them again in another ten years, if not before. They have already recommended us and will continue to do so!

13/01/2017: Four Piece Suite In Floral Flatware Fabric

A beautiful four piece suite which comprises a three seater sofa, a two seater sofa, an armchair and a lift-top footstool has been completely restored to as-new condition in a floral flatware fabric. Working on a fabric like this requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure the pattern matching is perfect.

Before any of the floral fabric went on however, all four pieces had to be stripped right back to their frames and all their interiors had to be replaced with the best quality interiors. The seat cushion interiors have been replaced with "Reflex" interiors and the back cushions replaced with "Fibre-Fill" interiors. "Reflex" interiors come with a 10 year guarantee, which is an added benefit giving our customers peace of mind, as is the life-extending secondary casing which the seat cushion is wrapped in, which comprises Dacron and stockinette. The back cushions have been replaced with "Fibre-fill" interiors which creates the perfect combination of maximum comfort, quality and durability. All materials used in the re-upholstery of furniture are always flame retardant. Lastly, all four pieces were finished with a rolled edge, a set of armcaps and four scatter cushions to finish the look. Our clients said they were very, very pleased with their "new" suite and were very impressed with the pattern matching. We look forward to reading their feedback on our Which? Trusted Traders page.

06/01/2017: Fifty year old corner piece Ercol day bed with chairs

This week the workshop has accommodated a corner unit and an "Ercol" day bed and four chairs. It is always a priority to make sure the furniture we re-upholster is restored to its original condition. This classic, quality furniture has now been fully restored and brought up to date.

The corner unit was first on the bench, it was first stripped back to the frame and all of it's interiors have been replaced with the best quality flame retardant interiors available. This is to ensure it is restored to the condition it was back in 1968 when it was bought by the customers, nearly 50 years ago. The seat cushion interiors have now been replaced with new best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. The existing back cushion interiors were also replaced. They are now made out of flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. This creates a perfect combination of quality, comfort and durability.

It has been re-upholstered in a best quality flame retardant crushed fabric. Lastly, a set of new legs were made and then French polished before being attached to the frame, which was then finished with a hand-stitched flat skirt. Not only does this fabric look fantastic, it will retain it's good looks for many years as it is incredibly hard-wearing and "Teflon" coated so will repel stains and marks as well as lasting for as long a fabric can possibly last.

This corner unit is obviously incredibly good quality and although it has had a hard life and been re-upholstered a number of times in the past it has been treasured by the owners and has now been restored to its former glory. Our clients were thrilled and were kind enough to say it looked the best they had seen it!

Next on the bench was a "Ercol" day bed and four chairs, the usual procedure took place to replace all materials with flame retardant interiors. It was then re-upholstered in the highest quality "Romo" linen which was of course also flame retardant. Our clients were thrilled to say the least and said it was wonderful, lovely and beautiful and have already asked us to undertake further upholstery work for them. We look forward to featuring these on the blog in due course.

23/12/2016: Beautiful Coopers three piece suite in Christina Marrone

It's nearly Christmas, but we had time for just one more job before we relax on our own sofa for a few days. The job in question was to refurbish a three piece suite made by Coopers. The suite is made up of an armchair, a two seater sofa and a three seater sofa. They were re-upholstered in a beautiful "Christina Marrone" chenille fabric which fitted in perfectly with the client's house.

Before the outside of the sofa is reupholstered however, the inside must be taken care of first. This involves stripping the material off each sofa down to the frames, then replacing everything with the high quality flame retardant materials we use. The seat cushion interiors were replaced with the best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were then wrapped in a secondary casing comprising of Dacron and stockinette, this extends the life of the cushion and adds more durability. The back cushion interiors were replaced with "Fibre-fill" interiors, which creates the perfect combination of the two materials ensuring maximum comfort, quality and durability. All materials used in our re-upholstery are the best available and of course flame retardent.

All three pieces were finished with a rolled edge which was the final step of this process to ensure the suite was returned to the customer in "as new" condition. On delivery the clients said they loved their "new" sofa and said it was a complete transformation.

16/12/2016: Two seater sofa restored to as new condition in subtle neutral tones

As Christmas comes closer by the minute, we are getting a lot of enquiries from people wanting their furniture re-upholstered to look good as new for the big day. One of the people enquiring had a "Jasper Conran" two seater sofa that was in need of some attention from a professional, we of course said we could help. The sofa was picked up from the client's house and taken back to the workshop where Richard started to strip it back to it's frames straight away.

All of the sofa's interiors were then replaced with the highest quality flame retardant materials we could get. The cushion interiors were replaced with a "Reflex" interior and then wrapped in a secondary casing created with Dacron and stockinette. This prolongs the cushion's life and ensures maximum comfort, quality and durability. All of the materials we used in the cushions are flame retardant and carry a ten year guarantee.

All the interiors of the sofa were created to make sure the sofa ended up as a good as new product. This is always a high priority for us, as the furniture we refurbish has to last as long as it possibly can. The sofa was lastly covered in a neutral coloured fabric fitting with any of the surroundings in any home. The fabric chosen was a flame retardant flatware fabric made by Warwick.

As always, the sofa was delivered back to the client's home where they told us "It looks stunning!"

09/12/2016: Begère four piece suite restored to former glory

A Begère four piece suite has occupied the workshop this week as we completely refurbished the the whole set. We first took everything apart, all the way back to the original frames, then got to work on the woodwork. The unique beauty of Begère furniture is the exposed natural wood frames. As this style of furniture is from the early 20th century, it often needs repairs when it comes round to restoring it. Specialist repair was needed to restore it to as-new condition. Traditional French techniques were put into use as period furniture must be treated with respect. This was also crucial to ensure the whole suite was restored to it's former glory.

The next step was quite similar to any other job, as we were re-creating the cushions to the high standard they were originally made at. This involved making seat cushions out of "Reflex" stuffing, and back cushions with a "Fibre-Fill" stuffing, both of which are flame retardent. The seat cushions were then wrapped in a secondary casing comprising of Dacron and stockinette, the "Reflex" material inside also holds a ten year guarantee. The exterior of the sofa and the cushion covers were made out of flame retardent "Warwick" flatware striped fabric. This was a task that required meticulous attention to detail to ensure the perfect pattern matching was achieved.

The customers said it was "magnificent and absolutely beautiful" when we delivered it. They were also kind enough to send us an email later in the day saying "Our Begère suite looks fantastic! Thanks again to you and your team." What a wonderful end to the week, very happy clients mean very happy upholsterers.

They also left us a review on our Which? Trusted Traders page, which you can read below:

"Highly recommend.

Customer Service 5/5
Quality 5/5
Value 5/5

We had a four piece Bergere suite re-upholstered and sections of the cane repaired/replaced. The result was fantastic. Service was friendly, efficient, professional and knowledgeable."

25/11/2016: Two sofas restored to original condition in

A wonderful pair of three seater and two seater sofas visited the workshop this week. It was in need of some attention, a complete strip down to the frames and renovation to be specific. Both sofas have been completely reupholstered, which involves replacing the interiors of the sofa with the best quality flame retardant materials available.

The cushions were also rejuvenated with new exterior and interior materials, then wrapped in a Dacron and stockinette secondary casing to extend the life of the cushions. As the back cushions and seat cushions both are subjected to very different weights and surfaces in daily use, they have to be made of different materials. As our work is made to last, we always recommend “Reflex” and “Fibre-fill” interiors as they are, in our opinion, the best available. They are also flame retardant, as are all of the materials involved in the process.

The sofas were then re-upholstered with best quality flame retardant "Ross" chenille fabric, and two sets of arm caps to protect the arms of both sofas. The owners of the sofas found us via our Which? Trusted Traders page, where they read our positive reviews which gave them the confidence that we would provide a first class service.

18/11/2016: Different Furniture, different fabric - same client

The four pieces of furniture brought to us by this client, a two seater sofa and armchair plus a wing chair with footstool, now add a strongly contrasting look to their home.

For the sofa and armchair, a subtle silver flatweave was chosen from the "Warwick" best quality, flame retardant range. The simplicity of this pattern complements the clean lines of the suite perfectly. For the wing chair and footstool a bold check pattern in sumptuous deep red makes it really stand out and look every bit as comfortable as it feels.

Before starting, to ensure a finished result that was "as new", all four pieces were stripped back to their frames for checking, and the interiors were replaced as required with best quality, flame retardant materials to provide the best possible foundation for the final upholstery.Existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee.

For the greatest possible comfort and cushion life, these were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette. The existing back cushion interiors were also treated to re-filling with best quality flame retardant "Fibre-fill" interiors. To finish the job beautifully, the sofa and armchair were finished with a rolled edge, then we made one set of arm caps and two scatter cushions which completed the look. Our clients loved their "new" furniture and have already recommended us!

They very kindly said they would recommend us and promised to provide their feedback on our service to Which? and we look forward to reading this in due course.

A "Cooper's" four piece suite has experienced the full Richard Bull experience this week. It comprises of a three seater sofa, two armchairs and a footstool. The footstool's fabric has been replaced with flame retardant "Linwood" fabric, with of course perfect pattern matching.

The remaining three pieces have been stripped back to the frames and restored to their as-new condition by replacing the interiors with the best quality available flame retardent fabrics. All the seat cushion interiors have been replaced with flame retardent "Reflex" materials with a ten year guarantee and then put inside a secondary casing made of Dacron and stockinette. As per the original high standard set by "Cooper's", all three pieces have been finished with a rolled edge.Lastly, one of the armchairs had a broken sprung unit, so that has been replaced with a brand new one. The owners of the suite were very pleased and said we had given their suite a new lease of life and it looked like brand new. 04/11/2016: Variety is the spice of life!

A whole week of chairs was the order of the day in our workshop. From antiques to modern day pieces, there were chairs of all shapes and sizes, and widely varying styles from this client.

Sometimes you have to be flexible. This was definitely one of those times. From antiques to a bedroom chair and a modern, large winged armchair, there was a challenge in every piece. Pattern matching is more critical than ever when working with a variety of styles and shapes.

Using a range of best quality, flame retardant fabrics, each piece was stripped back to the bare frame to ensure an "as new" end result. Where appropriate, interiors and cushion fillings were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials before carefully applying the outer fabrics.

Our client was delighted with our craftsmanship and was impressed on the attention to detail that had been paid when re-upholstering such a wide variety of chairs.

28/10/2016: Three hearty chairs!

This client came to us with three very dearly loved chairs. For their two armchairs and one "Parker-Knoll" recliner, they chose a bold "Linwood" checked flatweave fabric.

To ensure a first class result and an "as new" finish, the foundation has to be perfect, so all three chairs were stripped back to the frame to make sure that the cushioning and upholstery were going to have the same kind of support that they would have had when the furniture was first built.

Having made sure that all was sound, the interiors were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials. Existing seat cushion interiors were replaced with best quality flame retardant "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee. They were also wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life.

Finally, the best quality, flame retardant fabric was applied, with meticulous attention to detail, which is essential with such fabrics to ensure perfect pattern matching. Checked fabrics show even the tiniest deviation from straight lines and keeping everything just so when following the lines of the furniture pays immense dividends when looking at the final result.

Our clients said the chairs looked lovely and that we had done a fantastic job! We look forward to reading their comments on our Which? Trusted Traders page in due course.

24/10/2016: Give your cushions a christmas present by refilling them and restoring them to their former condition

Christmas can often be a busy time, but when you do get a chance to rest, you don't want to be sitting on saggy cushions.

If your cushions are losing their oomph, they can often be restored to former comfort and appearance simply by replacing cushion interiors.

Feather cushions look and feel fantastic but require a lot of maintenance by plumping up to ensure they don't look flat. Often new furniture is made by using poor quality interiors.

Replacing your cushion interiors is one of the quickest fixes for making your home and your furniture more comfortable. Restoring the shape of sagging cushions also gives the appearance of your furniture a new lease of life. You can also "fine tune" the density of the padding to suit you and your family, even to the point of his and hers chairs to suit different weight and sitting habits.

From collection to delivery takes between twenty four to forty eight hours - not long for a transformation! Talking of transformations, take a look at the before, during and after photographs from recent cushion jobs in our workshop.

For all seat cushion interiors we use best quality flame retardant "Reflex" fillings, which carry a ten year guarantee. These are then wrapped in a secondary casing, comprising Dacron and stockinette, to prolong cushion life. To suit your taste, cushion fillings can be made in varying densities, ensuring that you have the firmness or the softness you prefer. If different family members prefer more supportive or compliant cushions, perhaps to ease back problems, it is also possible to make one chair firmer than the others.

For back cushion interiors we recommend best quality "Fibre-fill" interiors. The combination of "Reflex" and "Fibre-fill" will ensure maximum comfort, quality and durability.

Simply call us at the workshop on 01277 374444 (weekdays between 8am and 5pm), or click in the header of any page to tell us about your cushion requirements. We can advise what sort of interiors and densities will suit you best, once we've discussed what kind of feel you require.

You can put pictures into our dropbox for us to work up a quote from, or if you prefer, we can visit your home to assess the job. We are proud of our workshop too, and visitors there are always welcome to discuss upholstery needs and to see for yourself the quality of our workmanship in progress.

21/10/2016: Two by two… Second time around for a pair of 2 seater sofas

The deep blue crushed "Romo" fabric chosen by this client for their two seater sofas just exudes comfort and calls you to come and sit a while. Not only that, thanks to the "Teflon" coating, it will keep on looking just as luxurious for many years to come. As well as resisting the odd spill and scuff mark, this sumptuous fabric is also extremely easy to clean.

These sofas were last brought to us 12 years ago for re-upholstery and the client was so happy that she came back when the wear and tear of family life had taken its toll.

One of the reasons for so many clients returning to Richard Bull Upholstery is the meticulous approach to making sure the finished job is comfortable, durable and appealing. This always begins with stripping the furniture back to its bare frame to make sure that there is a sound foundation for the cushioning and upholstery to sit on.

This job was no exception and once stripped and checked, all the fixed interiors were replaced with best quality, flame retardant materials to support the cushions and give that all-important "as new" finish to the job.

This week we re-visited a long-standing client for whom we last re-upholstered their sofas twelve years ago.

The interiors of the back and seat cushions were then replaced with "Reflex" interiors, which carry a ten year guarantee, wrapped in a Dacron and stockinette secondary casing for even greater comfort and durability. Finally, the upholstery fabric was applied with all the care and attention to detail that such quality furniture deserves.

Our client loved her "new" sofas and we look forward to seeing her again in another twelve years!

They were then completely re-upholstered in the best quality flame retardant "Linwood" flatware fabric to restore them to "as-new" condition.

The seat cushion interiors have been replaced with flame retardant "Reflex" interiors and wrapped in a Dacron and stockinette secondary casing. The back cushion interiors have been replaced with "Fibre-fill" to create a perfect combination of comfort and durability.

Scatter cushions, of different sizes, were made using two complementary fabrics from the same “Linwood” flatware range and they finished the look beautifully.

Lastly, we made one set of arm caps to protect the arms of the suite from wear.

Our clients were absolutely delighted and were particularly impressed with the first class pattern matching. They are members of Which? and, therefore, appreciate the rigorous standards to which we must adhere and we look forward to reading their independent feedback.

Here's what our clients said to Which?:

"Richard is a fantastic upholsterer. He collected the suite on time and returned itto us the next week as agreed. We really cannot fault the craftsmanship and finish with perfect pattern matching. It has a wow factor and it certainly looks as good as new. We are extremely pleased with the result and would highly recommend Richard to anyone.>"
